Fieldnote Films is Kay Hannahan and Tyler Hurley. We make documentaries about identity, memory, and place. Our films have been showcased by The Atlantic and the U.S. National Gallery of Art and have screened at festivals worldwide, including Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Sidewalk Film Festival, Docudays Human Rights Film Festival, and Docaviv. Our work has been supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Fulbright Program.
We met as Peace Corps volunteers in Bulgaria, and years later we went back to make films there. We spent a year in Budapest on a Fulbright grant, making a film about Hungarian architecture and politics. These days we're based in Minneapolis, and Kay teaches at Winona State University.
Kay directs, shoots, and edits; Tyler produces, shoots, and records sound. Between us, we’re a full crew. Tyler has also spent more than a decade working with community organizations, helping them say what they do, why it matters, and what sets them apart. We're practiced at building trust, and we know firsthand what organizations are up against when they try to tell their own story.
We'd love to help you tell yours.
